Swedish researchers have followed the implementation of Journalen since the start, not the least through the DOME consortium (https://domeconsortium.org/). The shift towards giving patients online access to their EHR is not exclusive to Sweden, but happing throughout the world. Researchers from the DOME-consortium participate in the nordic research collaboration NORDeHEALTH with colleagues from Norge, Finland, Estonia and the USA (Maria Hägglund, Uppsala Universitet, PI). In the US, a new legislation came into force in April 2021 where patients rigth to access their electronic health records is strengthened. The EU now moves in a similar direction with the proposal for a European Health Data Space (EHDS), where all member states are required to ensure their citizens have online access to their EHR no later than 2030.
